Julie Hopkins

Julie Hopkins grew up in the Hudson River Valley and has spent every spring, summer and fall since birth at her family’s beach cottage in Davis Park on Fire Island. She paints primarily in oil, pastel, gouache, and acrylics. Julie derives inspiration and much of her subject matter for landscapes and intimate still life paintings from sketches, photos and observation of beach life. She is also a printmaker and most recently has been working on a series of abstracts using collage and mixed media.

Julie is a Master Pastelist with the Pastel Society of America; an Elected Artist Member of the Salmagundi Club of New York, Audubon Artists of America, and Allied Artists of America; a Signature Member of the Connecticut Pastel Society; and a member of the Monotype Guild of New England and the New York Society of Etchers. Her work was featured in the books Art Journey Abstract Painting: A Celebration of Contemporary Art (2017), North Light/IMPACT Books/F&W Publishing, and Best of America: Pastel Artists (2009), Best of Artists & Artisans Series/Kennedy Publishing, as well as in The Pastel Journal’s Annual Pastel 100 Competitions where she has received several Honorable Mention awards in the Abstract/Non-Objective Category.
