Carla Miller

Carla Miller is a pastel artist who has been capturing the beauty of the sea through her art. Her artistic journey began over two decades ago when Carla started photographing the shoreline of Fire Island, NY. It was during this time that she became mesmerized by the intricate details of waves. Wanting to capture the elusive qualities of light reflected on the water's surface and the ethereal translucency of each wave, she chose the medium of chalk pastels. It gives her great satisfaction to render the wild, wet ocean with pieces of dry chalk. Beyond her mastery of pastels, Carla boasts an impressive background in design and art directing, with over 30 years of experience in the field. Originally from California, she attended the the University of Washington, earning a BFA in Graphic Design. Fueling her artistic ambitions further, Carla completed her MFA in Graphic Design at Yale University before making her way to New York City.Currently, Carla divides her time between Long Island City, NY during the winter months and the idyllic shores of Davis Park, Fire Island throughout the summer.
